EXHIBITIONS
Our 2006 Annual Exhibition was held from
11th November to 2nd December
in
Bolton Central Art Gallery
The
2003 Annual Exhibition
The family of Ron Close, an Honorary Life Member who died on 5th
June 2003, presented the Circle with a Trophy in his memory.

In
2003 the Trophy was awarded to a work of art which had a
"water" connection.
|
The
Margaret
Huyton Trophy,
presented each year to the artwork, which, in the opinion of the judge,
is the best one done by an artist who has not been a member for more
than three years and can claim to be a novice.
The 2003 winner was Graham Savage with his picture “Marianne”.
The
Jubilee
Trophy, presented to the artwork which the judge has chosen
as the overall “Best in Show”. In 2003 the trophy went to Masoud Mottaghi for his
picture “Del Duomo, (Florence).

The
Ron
Close Trophy was presented in 2003 to the work of art
which, in the opinion of the judge,
was the best work with a "watery" theme.
The
presentation was made by Ron’s grandsons, Simon and Peter
to Paul Gerrard for his picture
“November, Nob End”.

Everyone agrees that the exhibition is excellent so
congratulations are in order to all those who contributed
including the artists, Roland, Jolyon, Sheila, June, Paul,
Norma, Eric, the stewards, the painters and Art Gallery staff.
It has all been worthwhile .

The
2004 Annual Exhibition
|
Approximately
135 people turned up at our Preview Evening on 22nd
October to see the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Cliff Morris
declare the Exhibition open. This year our judge was ex
Art Circle member Morton Murray, Chairman of
Horwich Art Society and we have been delighted with the
variety and range of works he has selected.
The three trophies and 11 Highly Commended Certificates were
awarded as follows:-
Margaret Huyton Trophy
was presented to Simone Scholes for her picture
“Ethan”.
The Jubilee Trophy was
presented to Mary Edyvean for her picture
“Summer Walk”.
The Ron Close Trophy,
this year was awarded to the Best (monochrome) Drawing.
It went to Paul Gerrard for his picture “The
Stone Dresser”. (Paul won it last year for the best
work with a watery theme.)
Highly Commended Certificates were
awarded to :- Brian Barlow, Elaine Clarkson, Lynne
Frost, Paul Gerrard, Margaret Greenwood, Susan Hestford,
Sue Hollinshead, Graham Jones, Ena Mann, Graham
Savage and Pat
Whitfield.
The "Popular Poll"
drew over 1200 votes from
members of the
public.
Paul Gerrard’s picture, “Morning Light,
Church Street, Little Lever” received the “Most
Popular” vote. In 2nd place was
Sue Hestford with “Peaceful Retreat”,
then (3rd =) were Paul Gerrard, again,
with “The Stone Dressers”, (which also won the
Jubilee Trophy) and Margaret Greenwood with
“Church”.
As
many of you will know, Bolton MBC are not letting us use
the Gallery in 2005, but will let us back in 2006, when
it will be our 60th Annual Exhibition.
In
2005, Bolton Art Gallery ran an Open Exhibition in
Gallery 2 from 1st October to 26th
November 2005. Any artist living or working in Bolton
was eligible.

Over
200 invited Guests attended our Preview for the 2006
"Annual" Exhibition. The Mayor of Bolton,
Councillor Walter Hall attended briefly and declared the Exhibition open.
As the prizes were awarded, Art Gallery Exhibitions
Officer Sarah Teale projected images of the pictures in
the Lecture Theatre with a PowerPoint presentation.
This year our judges
were our Honorary Members Dorothy Colvin and Betty
Walsh, who selected a good range of works.
The three trophies and 12 Highly Commended Certificates were
awarded as follows:-
Margaret Huyton Trophy
was presented to Harold Sharrocks for his picture
“Waiting for the Master”.
The Jubilee Trophy was
presented to Margaret Greenwood for her picture
“Gold and Black”.
The Ron Close Trophy,
this year was awarded to the picture best depicting
people in an environment. It was awarded to Eirwen
Morgan for her picture “Morris Dancers”.
